UPVC fascia boards- what are they and which is best?

You see them advertised in newspapers and on TV, but what are UPVC fascia boards? Before we go into that, it's worth clearing up something about the term UPVC fascia. You may have seen it described as PVCU, and this difference has lead to some confusion with some consumers, but in reality there is no difference between UPVC facia boards and PVCU. In Britain, UPVC changed it's name to PVCU in the late eighties to fall in line with other European countries who referred to it as PVCU.

Fascia boards are a type of roof trim used on houses which are mounted on the exposed ends of rafters or on top of exterior walls to create a layer between the edge of the roof and the exterior. As well as making the outside look better by creating a smooth, even appearance on the edge of the roof, UPVC fascia board also protects the roof and the interior of the house from weather damage.

The basic material properties of UPVC fascia boards make it ideal for using as the main property in windows and doors because it doesn't rot or decompose, it is resistant to weathering, and has low maintenance requirements. This means once you have fitted the UPVC fascia you don't have to worry about getting the ladders or scaffolding out every five years to repaint it, as you would have to do with standard wooden windows.
