If at some point you find that rot has set into a wooden fascia board, you will need to consider what kind of action to take in order to rectify the situation. The first thing to do before you set about fixing the damage is to try and establish the cause. Once you have done that, then you can tackle the job. A rotting fascia is usually an indication that either the shingles do not have enough overhang, or a drip edge was not installed, possibly a drip edge was installed but incorrectly. In a few boxed soffit, water has made its way into the back of the fascia by way of the roof and soffit.
It is usually a lot easier to simply replace fascias, this time perhaps with a plastic one to ensure that rot will not be a problem in the future. At Bliby Plastics we will be able to provide you with a good choice of fascias, including uPVC fascia boards, and advice on how to install them.
If you feel that the damage is not all that bad, then you could use some kind of epoxy wood material with which to repair it. When this sort of product hardens it is possible to drill, sand, saw, nail or paint it. After the removal of all the damaged wood there are fungicides that can be applied in order to prevent any more decay.
You may wish to cover the fascia with metal but it is recommended that you repair the damage to it first. We also provide PVC cladding and a wide range of plastics.
