We’ve all been there: got out of bed to find the gutters overflowing with muck and muddy water, running the fascias and running down the side of the house. Although this problem might seem dramatic, it is a fairly simple one, requiring an even simpler solution – your gutters need cleaning.
First off, the best way to limit the damage to a gutter (and your home in general) is to check your guttering on a regular basis, as this way you can pre-empt your gutters overflowing and save a bundle on potential water-damage repair costs.
So, what do you do if you find your guttering is looking a bit clogged? Well, whilst you might be tempted to get a professional in (which is recommended if your not confident with DIY) you could save yourself a packet by doing the job yourself.
All you need really is a sturdy ladder and an appropriate scooping implement. You can probably see where this is going but basically you need to ascend your ladder, and use your appropriate scooping implement, such as a trowel, and then thoroughly scoop out all of the dead leaves and muck out of your guttering. In order to complete the job you could also use a house to both remove any remaining detritus and to test the flow of water into the downpipe.
Throughout this process it is essential that you practice ladder safety – and don’t, for example, lean your ladder on the unsteady plastic guttering.
If you find that your plastic guttering isn’t proving strong or useful enough, or isn’t ideal for preventing leakages, opt for the cast iron guttering that we supply at Blibly Plastics.
