The polycarbonate plastic sheets we at Bliby Plastics sell are ideal for applications where temperature resistance, low weight, optical clarity, strength and flexibility are important. The plastic sheets we supply for roofing fulfil all these needs.
Polycarbonate sheeting is transparent, versatile, and recyclable and offers a high degree of insulation to heat, cold and noise. It’s also an excellent electrical insulator. Easy to cut and fit, and extremely light to carry, it is widely used in the construction of conservatories, loft conversions and greenhouses.
Plastic sheets are often used for security or protection; for example safety glazing, machine guards and covers, barrel vault roofing and sound barriers. They are widely used in bus and train station shelters, and to clad balconies, allowing a high degree of light through without the risk of injury. The plastic is easily shaped when cold, making it an excellent choice where prefabrication is needed.
Although polycarbonate made its appearance in the late 19th century, plastic sheets were not developed until the 1950s, when Beyer developed a linear thermoplastic. General Electric followed suit, and by 1960 the first plastic sheets were in production. Polycarbonate sheets are available in several tinted shades, and created by a high-volume, low cost method called plastic extrusion.
The only drawback is that they are fairly soft – dry cloths and abrasive materials will easily scratch them, and very hot water will cause opaqueness. Plastic sheets are also non-resistant to solvents and chemicals, so they must be cleaned using lukewarm water, soft cloth and mild detergent. However, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. We have a wide variety of products, including plastic wall cladding.
